吳振瑞先生外號「旗山香蕉大王」，故居位於旗山老街，曾任高雄青果合作社理事主席，任職期間為台灣香蕉外銷日本的鼎盛時期，曾為台灣賺取巨額外匯，後遭人栽贓金碗賄賂案官司而含冤入獄，史稱「剝蕉案」。吳振瑞先生也成為當時白色恐怖時期受難者，出獄後赴日隱居，直到獲得平反才返回台灣，「剝蕉案」卻使台灣「香蕉王國」地位拱手讓人。旗山老街以石塊堆砌而成的圓拱亭仔腳為主要特色。日治時期以巴洛克及日式建築方式來取代原來中國傳統式的建築。街上擁有土埆厝茅屋、閩南式合院、全台唯一的石拱回廊街屋、仿巴洛克街屋、都鐸式建築、中國式建築古宅，可謂集台灣古建物之大成，已成為高雄地區重要景點之一。

Wu Jhen-ruei, whose family residence is located on the old street of Cishan, was nicknamed the “Cishan Banana King.”Wu was previously chairman of the Kaohsiung Fruit Marketing Cooperative, and his period in office was also the heyday of Taiwanese banana exports to Japan, earning large amounts of foreign exchange for Taiwan. However, Wu was framed in the “Golden Bowl Bribery Case” and sent to prison. With this injustice, Wu Jhen-ruei became another victim of the White Terror. After his release, Wu lived in seclusion in Japan, before he was eventually vindicated and returned to Taiwan. The case marked the end of Taiwan's position as a “Banana Kingdom.”The arched stone arcades are the main feature of Cishan Old Street.During the Japanese period, the colonial rulers combined Baroque and Japanese style architecture to replace traditional Chinese buildings.The street features houses built using traditional adobe masonry, traditional Minnan-style courtyard houses, the only stone-arch townhouses in Taiwan, imitation Baroque townhouses, Tudor-style architecture, and old Chinese-style architecture. The street contains one of the most impressive collections of old buildings in Taiwan and has become one of the major attractions of the Kaohsiung area.
